The NICU Clinical Resource Nurse is a Registered Nurse responsible for the clinical and organizational operations of the NICU during the shift. The Clinical Resource Nurse promptly and fully investigates and resolves complaints of parents, staff and physicians advising management appropriately. The Clinical Resource Nurse demonstrates and ability to respond and provide direction in changing workloads during crisis and during emergency situations
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Perform according to policy patient assessments, vital signs, obtain laboratory specimens, administer medications, feed infants orally or via gavage tubes the ordered formula or breast milk. Insert and manage peripheral IV catheters and the ordered fluid infusions, manage arterial and central lines and the ordered fluids. Perform point of care testing as ordered or per protocol. Attend deliveries and C/S as requested. Assume resource responsibility as assigned, participate in transport team as assigned. Teach parents newborn care and how to administer medications. Teach co-workers in didactic classes or in-services as appropriate. Develop and implement and document to the plan of care. Manage complex patients and participate in policy and procedure review and revision as directed. Assist mothers with breastfeeding and maintain according to policy the storage of breast milk. Manage patient on various ventilatory modes to include nasal cannulas, oxygen hoods, nasal CPAP, ventilators, high frequency ventilators, pneumogram machines. Document patient interventions and results. Enter patient classification data, identify staffing needs and make assignments, cover nurses for meals and breaks, assist staff as necessary, intervene with customer service issues, perform initial investigation of incidents as necessary.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current California RN license
Minimum of 3 years of NICU experience
Demonstrated clinical competence and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to present self in a positive and professional manner
Advanced Clinical Nurse
Current NRP certification within 90 days of hire (maintain current at all times)
Current S.T.A.B.L.E. certification within 120 days of hire (maintain current at all times)
Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (maintain current at all times)
