Nurse Manager NICU Small Baby

The NICU at University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital has staff with extensive specialized training and experience to provide stabilizing and life-saving care for sick newborns. Through teamwork and collaboration, we respectfully address the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of pediatric patients and their families. The NICU is recognized as a Level IV NICU the highest level of intensive care for neonates comprised of 3 units Small Baby, Med/Surg, and Intermediate Care with the opportunities to advance to higher level acuity.

We are a designated March of Dimes NICU Family Support program and have a Neuro NICU with specialized care for babies with neurologic conditions.

NICU Department:

• Level IV NICU
• Neonatal Nurse Practitioners on Staff 24/7
• 74 beds

NICU- Small Baby Unit

• Level IV
• 20 beds
• Provides developmentally appropriate care to infants born 22-32 weeks gestation
• 1-2 patients per RN depending on stability of the baby
• RNs must become NRP certified.

The Nursing Manager manages nursing practice and patient care operations in collaboration with and accountable to the Nursing Director.This includes: nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities.

• Manages day-to-day operations of assigned area(s) to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.
• Plans, manages, coordinates and evaluates patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
• Manages equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.
• Accountable for capacity management to promote patient flow.
• Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the quality improvement initiatives.
• Responsible for human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
• Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Advocates for patient, family and staff needs.
• Drive improvement activities that promote patient centered care and positive customer experience.
• In partnership the Nursing Practice and Education team assure that evidence based/best practice clinical care is being delivered.
• Ensures staff compliance in areas of job requirements, education and clinical competency.
• Works with Nurse Director to establish goals and objectives.
• Promotes a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education and research.
• Partners with interprofessional team members across the continuum of care to achieve organizational outcomes.

Required

Education

• Bachelors degree in Nursing. If Bachelors degree is not in nursing must have a Masters degree is nursing

Experience

• Four Years nursing experience, at least two of which is in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role.

License/Certification/Registration

• Licensed Registered Nurse. Ability to obtain Minnesota nursing license at time of hire.
