The Clinical Educator is an experienced professional registered nurse who utilizes evidence-based practice for the achievement of organizational goals related to nursing education and professional practice.The Clinical Educator serves as an educator, consultant, facilitator, and resource for nursing staff.The Clinical Educator possesses in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill, and competence.The Clinical Educator utilizes a collaborative approach to communicate among all care providers to optimize the efficiency and efficacy of patient care.In this role, the Clinical Educator is a change agent and suggests new and innovative approaches that result in sustained performance improvement. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Development, Implementation, Coordination, and Evaluation of Education/Educational Programs
ï¿½ Develops and coordinates new and existing employee orientation programs.Schedules new employees for required orientation components and monitors their progression.
ï¿½ Creates, reviews, and revises orientation pathways and competencies, annually.
ï¿½ Evaluates educational programs for effectiveness and impact.Provides Director/Manager with annual program evaluation summary.
ï¿½ Creates and provides educational and professional development opportunities that enhance empirical outcomes, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, transformational leadership, new knowledge, innovations, and improvements.
ï¿½ Evaluates and tracks programs and other educational/professional development offerings for sustained improvement and outcomes.
ï¿½ Performs learning needs assessment (annually and ad hoc).Develops educational programs based on needs.Provides training reports to assist staff in achieving high completion rates for assigned departments.
ï¿½ Ensures educational activities are congruent with organizational pillars, mission, vision, values, goals, current, nationally recognized standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
ï¿½ Identifies and develops high-risk, low-volume clinical competencies that are reviewed, annually, and as needed.
ï¿½ Provides didactic classes, self-study modules, and learning opportunities to staff members.Evaluates on-going needs, competence, and post-education outcomes.
ï¿½ Implements a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learnerï¿½s characteristics, learning needs, cultural perspectives, and outcome objectives.
ï¿½ Plans professional development programs that are culturally relevant and that incorporate concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education.
ï¿½ Creates, maintains, and reviews annual competencies for preceptors and Advanced Clinical Nurses.
ï¿½ Utilizes complex patient care situations to develop critical thinking skills among the staff.
Leadership and Collaboration:
ï¿½ Works with Nursing Directors and Managers to create educational content that meets department specific needs.
ï¿½ Provides guidance, educational support, and leadership throughout the organization.
ï¿½ Encourages staff to pursue higher education, certification, and attend/participate in professional development activities.
ï¿½ Models behaviors that reflect participation and leadership in activities within the organization, such as serving in key roles on committees, and councils.
ï¿½ Participates in and supports Tenet RN Orientation and Residency Standardization.
ï¿½ Evaluations ï¿½ Provides input with resident, preceptor, and new hire evaluations as needed.
ï¿½ Assumes responsibility for projects and is self-directed in autonomously moving charge forward, while identifying when guidance and/or assistance is needed.
ï¿½ Supports lifelong learning in collaboration with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, professional nursing organizations, and other nursing professional development specialists.
Quality and Performance Improvement:
ï¿½ Collects data to evaluate the transition of education/learning to clinical practice and to assess needs for further learning.
ï¿½ Shares information with appropriate individuals regarding necessary changes and/or compliance concerns.Works collaboratively to develop and implement process changes to achieve compliance.
ï¿½ Monitors performance improvement, creates, implements, measures, and monitors educational plans to meet performance and quality improvement needs and initiatives.
ï¿½ Provides education that aligns with regulatory, best practice, and evidence-based standards.
ï¿½ Participates in the development, education, and communication of policies and procedures as appropriate.
ï¿½ Creates and implements training/educational programs focused on identified performance improvement and organizational initiatives.
ï¿½ Participates in continued survey-readiness activities and provides education as appropriate.
ï¿½ Creates and implements education action plans based on survey findings (actual and readiness).
ï¿½ Integrates research into practice and develops staff membersï¿½ knowledge and skills in the research process, as well as fosters the use of systematic evaluative research with regard to clinical and educational data.
ï¿½ Incorporates LEAN methodology into daily practice.
Required Training/Education/Experience/Certification: High School or Equivalent, Masters in Nursing, CA RN license, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, Advanced Fetal Monitoring, preferably RNC-EFM for Women and Children.
Preferred Certification: Certification in specialty (e.g. ï¿½ CCRN, CEN, CMSRN, CNOR, etc.) nursing education (CNE), or nursing professional development.
Knowledge & Skills:
1. Masterï¿½s Degree in Nursing
2. Current, unencumbered licensure to practice in the State of California
3. Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in area of expertise.
4. Computer literacy including Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
5. Exceptional relationship management skills and professional demeanor.Must be regarded as a role model to elevate nursing, education, and professional practice.
6. Understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to apply them in course instruction.
7. Understanding of change management principles.Ability to be a change agent by being a champion for change and participating in change processes.
8. Proven ability in critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, analytical/qualitative analysis, time management and priority setting.
9. Demonstrated ability to function both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
